One of the things that I brought back with me was vanilla beans from Madagascar and showing people how to use the beans has been a pure delight!
I have made all sorts of treats with this vanilla and have really enjoyed sharing the stories and care for the beans with people that have also enjoyed the process...
One family has made fresh ice cream with the beans two times and are looking at making it a third time in the coming days... The first time we scrapped out the actual Vanilla from the inside of the juicy bean and the second time they just used the extract that we made... BOTH
times it was an ice cream victory!
Can you tell us how you made the extract, if there's not too much info to share.
ReplyDeleteYou take the beans and cut them at the nob - not the hook... cut up toward the hook- about 3/4 of the way up.
ReplyDeletePut in a bottle of clear Vodka or Rhum... You will want to make sure that if you start with Rhum you continue with Rhum. As you use the extract you must fill it back up with alchol so that it will continue to draw from the beans.
Then place the bottle in a dry dark place in the kitchen
Let me know if this helps? Need any more help let me know?!!!
Enjoy for years to come
